“Is an object as elemental as a chair or a table still subject to insight or innovation?” This fundamental question is posed by the Italian contemporary furniture design firm, Arper, as it applies across the Italian design firms vast choice of products, including chairs, sofas, bar stools, dining chairs, lounge chairs, and tables.
Their answer: “Absolutely.” Arkitektura of San Francisco is pleased to display Arper’s simple, singular forms, each of their collections conceived for a specific space, which they define as: “Dining,” “Meeting,” “Working,” “Lounging,” “Eating In,” “Gathering” and “Outside.”
Arper is a company that presents its new forms with few words but abundant shapes: “Good design is a synthesis of technique, cost, material, function, use, taste and sustainability. That concentration of meanings, associations and possibilities must reside in simple, singular forms,” Arper states.
To assure this outcome, several notable designers are engaged, including Lievore Altherr, Jean-Marie Massaud, Simon Pengelly, Rodolfo Dordoni, Ichiro Iwasaki, and James Irvine, all of whose works may be explored at Arkitektura’s San Francisco showroom.
“All around us, change is the continuous constant,” observes Andrew Fisher, Arkitektura owner. “Arper’s designs provide a considered response to new forces in technology, culture and your personal life. Arkitektura and Arper share a common bond around their concept that ‘the best objects carry a rich, intellectual density in a shape that seems natural and effortless.’”
Arper’s awards for the best modern furniture speak for themselves. In the space of just the past three years: Arper’s Nuur table by Simon Pengelly has been awarded with the Polish award Dobry Wzor 2012 (Good Design) for the category “Pracy” (Working environment”) by the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw. TEAM, ASTON Office Syncro and BABAR was awarded with the label “Interior Innovation Award – Winner 2011, Germany,” Also awarded: Loop, Best of The Best nomination for "Best System" category, Catifa 53, Best of The Best nomination for "Classic Innovation" category and Nuur Best of The Best nomination for "Best Detail" category, 2010, Germany.
